Red Oak Flitches
This huge Red Oak log has some VERY light grain... easy to confuse with White Oak! The first four slabs are square edged, and the rest of the log still has the natural edges; except for pieces 11 - 14 which have been split to remove pith. These pieces have one staright edge and one natural edge. The grain in this log has very nicely centered cathedrals in the flatsawn pieces. The first couple pieces have a bit of mineral stain as can be seen in the image with board number 1 wetted with alcohol. This dark color streak can be seen on the left side of the board and adds a nice touch of color to the wood.
