White Oak Flitches

Fantastic set of figured white oak. The figure is wide and uniform. This log was cut to maximize flatsawn faces to show the curl. There are some scattered knots throughout the set, and some weather marks from the wood air drying. Four of the pieces have been surfaced to show the color and grain of the wood.
The figure is heaviest in the outer flatsawn cuts - some pieces have one face which is completely sapwood, but those pieces' backfaces have lots of heartwood. As we get towards the center of the log the figure fades away a bit - althought these pieces could be utilzed for the perfectly colormatched wood; great for frames or supports.
Set 435599 is a second log from the same tree. that set has a little less pronounced figure, but there are fewer knots.
This is a fantastic opportunity to do a large project with all matching color and grain. Very cool!
